Introduction
Leafield Engineering, formed in the 1950's, is an BS EN IS0 9001:2000 accredited, defence company with design, development and assembly/test skills specialising in sub-systems for weapon and aerospace applications. Leafield Engineering is very strongly focused towards the development and manufacture of products which require the integration of our explosive, mechanical and electronic expertise.
Leafield Engineering has an excellent track record of manufacture of own design and qualified products and also specialises in dissolving obsolescence and updating other designs to enable manufacturing in a modern environment. Some examples of the latter include the Milan Day and Night flares (under license from Aerospatiale, France), the transfer of technology from Germany for the Safety and Arming Unit for MLRS Phase 2, the Sea Skua missile safety & arming system and key systems for the Mk. 24 torpedo.
Leafield Engineering designed products include the Long Range Third Generation Anti-tank missile explosive break-up systems, torpedo safety & arming units, launcher systems for decoys and other applications, missile wing erection mechanisms, gas generators and a complete range of explosively activated devices (pyromechanisms).Leafield Engineering have recently, as part of the SAAB Bofors Dynamics team, won the competition for the next generation light anti-armour weapon for the UK and Swedish armed forces. LEL's role is in the manufacture of the safety & arming unit, key pyromechanisms and the insensitive munitions miniature detonating cord.
To support the activities, Leafield Engineering has established an extensively equipped licensed environmental test laboratory and a modern explosive handling facility.
